Options for Independence, located at 75 Genesee Street in Auburn, New York 13021, is one of 39 Independent Living Centers (ILC’s) in New York State. Independent Living Centers are private, not-for-profit resource centers that provide advocacy, information and referrals as well as a variety of direct service programs for individuals with disabilities.
Options for Independence works to empower individuals with disabilities with the ability to gain opportunities, make their own decisions, pursue activities, and become a part of community life. Options seeks to reduce attitudinal and architectural barriers in the community, and to maximize educational, recreational, political, employment, housing, and transportation opportunities for people with disabilities.
Our services include Peer Advocacy, Benefits Advisement and Representative Payee Services, Education and Housing Advocacy, Architectural Consultations and Access Advocacy, Recreational Access Consultations, and Disability Awareness Community Programs and Presentations.
In Cayuga County, Options also provides Medicaid Service Coordination and Home Accessibility Modifications with funding through the Cayuga County Legislature, City of Auburn, and New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal as well as operating the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program.
